RIP David Bowie, this show's for you

RIP David Bowie, this show's for you

Best of all, costumes are encouraged

The news of David Bowie's passing earlier this month shocked the entire band and the music community at large. When we got together for rehearsal and talked about it, we realized we each had a different favorite song and our own unique stories of how his music impacted our own musical development.

While we mourn his loss, we were also so thrilled to be asked to participate in an upcoming tribute show where several District bands will play many of the Thin White Duke's classics and some lesser known numbers.

We will be joined by Moral Hangover, Multi-Pass and Goblin Kings, and the show will take place next month at Mason Inn. It's a free event.

We've got our work cut out for us, no doubt. For our part, we're playing "Ashes to Ashes," "Starman," "The Man Who Sold the World" and "Space Oddity."

Halloween Special: Donning costumes for our show at Rock 'n' Roll Hotel

Can you guess our costume?

We've never dressed up before in the spirit of Halloween. Let's just say some band members were more excited by the idea than others (ahem, Jared).

The band settled on a costume compromise, something that didn't involve face paint, masks, wigs, i.e., required minimal preparation and something that was easy enough to play in for a 30-minute set. :-)

We're Robert Palmer and a couple of the girls from his iconic music video for the 1985 classic, "Addicted to Love."

Field trip to Philly!

Next week is a big week for the band. We'll be taking our act on the road for one night in Philly and then coming right back to play a second show in DC. We'll be at The Grape Room on Wednesday night and Solly's U Street Tavern on Friday.

Best of all, we're opening for Cordovas & Joe Firstman, who's toured with the likes of Sheryl Crow and Willie Nelson and also served a four-year stint as bandleader on Last Call with Carson Daly.

Women Who Rock: Nikki Smith

We are super excited about this article posted on the D.C. Music Download blog that features an extended interview with Nikki in the latest installment of their ongoing "Women Who Rock" series, putting her in the company of some pretty rockin' ladies around the District of Columbia and beyond.

"Smith, a California native, cultivated her passion for music through her parents. Her mother is an active member of Sweet Adelines International (a group of women singers advancing the music form of barbershop), and her father, who plays guitar in a classic rock cover band," according to the article.

The article came about largely because Lauren wrote to the blog to nominate Nikki for the series. Nice work, Lauren!

Brightest Young Things 'Artist on Artist' features Freeform Radio, our friends Glitterlust

This story officially ups our level of cool.

We've moved beyond the posts of "shows to get pumped for" and finally landed our name in an actual article on the Brightest Young Things, on of DC's biggest entertainment websites.

In case you missed it, check out this week's "Artist on Artist" feature that includes an interview between Nikki and Liz Yeljack of Glitterlust.

Glitterlust and Freeform Radio were formed around the same time and have played a number of gigs together, including last year's Phase Fest (pictured).
